Build a production-ready activewear tech pack with sketches, measurements, BOM, construction, colorways, branding, testing and packaging details.
What Should Be Included in an Activewear Tech Pack?
A tech pack is the working specification that translates a product idea into information a manufacturer can sample, cost and produce. It does not need decorative presentation; it needs clarity, revision control and enough detail to reduce assumptions.
Cover and revision information
- brand, style name and style number;
- season or collection;
- date and revision number;
- responsible contact;
- sample stage and status;
- change history.
Technical sketches
Include front and back flats plus close-ups of pockets, waistband, bra straps, closures, hems and other important details. Identify seam lines, panels and visible stitching.
Reference photos can help communicate direction but should not replace original technical information or copy protected branding.
Bill of materials
List shell fabric, lining, mesh, elastic, cups, thread, zippers, drawcords, labels, logos, hangtags and packaging. Useful fields include supplier/article reference, composition, color, placement and approval status.
Measurements and grading
- points-of-measure diagram;
- base-size measurements;
- tolerances;
- size range;
- grade rules or graded specification;
- measuring conditions.
Construction details
Define stitch and seam type by location, seam allowance, stitch density where critical, reinforcement, binding, bonding and finishing. Use diagrams or reference samples when terminology may be interpreted differently.
Colorways and artwork
Show color by panel and component. Include artwork dimensions, placement coordinates, file references and application method. Identify the controlling color standard.
Fit and performance requirements
State intended fit, activity and important performance needs. If testing is required, name the method or buyer standard and acceptance criterion rather than saying only "high quality."
Labels, packing and compliance
Include label copy, care symbols, country-of-origin requirements, placement, folding, individual packaging, barcode and carton instructions. The buyer remains responsible for confirming applicable destination-market requirements with qualified advisers.
What a tech pack cannot replace
A tech pack does not remove the need for sampling, fit review and material approval. It creates a controlled starting point and record of decisions.
